Court Appeal Session at Mbarara High Court

The\r\nDeputy Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Steven Kavuma launched a Court of Appeal\r\nsession in Mbarara High Court circuit where 50 criminal cases will be heard.

Speaking\r\nat the launch of the session Monday October\r\n3, 2016; Hon. Justice Kavuma said many people are not aware of the court’s\r\nexistence and do not know that they can appeal against the ruling of a High\r\nCourt Judge. "Many people are not aware that they can challenge the decision of\r\nthe High Court. They also know that the Court of Appeal is only in Kampala. We\r\nare bringing it to the local people so that they understand that it is not only\r\nin Kampala.” Hon. Justice Kavuma said.

Hon.\r\nJustice Kavuma said in the next 30 days, the court will handle 50 cases in\r\nMbarara High Court circuit. Three Justices including: - Hon. Justice Kenneth Kakuru\r\n(who will head the quorum), Hon. Justice Simon Byakama and Hon. Justice\r\nAlphonse Owiny Dollo, will handle the cases. He said this will reduce costs of\r\ntravelling to Kampala for Court sessions by appellants. He added that in\r\nNovember, the Court of Appeal will start hearing election petition appeals.
